An Indian girl

An Indian girl
I am a brown girl
it is not my fault
It is a matter of chance
                                                          Not a matter of choice
I am Indo-European
Some of us are fair-skinned
Others are brown
My sisters are fair
Everyone says I am lovely
But my skin is brown
There is social racism
In my country too
We blame the white race only
If we can be racists
Why can’t they be?
My fair sisters got married
No one married me
People say I am a good girl
But no one wants to marry me
I cannot love a boy
                                                           I cannot be romantic
Because I am a good girl
Many families visit our home
To choose a bride for
Their precious son
I am not precious because
I am a daughter
I am a sacred duty to
My father
He is anxious for my marriage Because he has to perform
His duty
He shows me to
Many families
My poor father
Spends enough money
To entertain them
To satisfy them so that
They like me
They enjoy a visit
They enjoy good food
In the end, they say
The girl is not beautiful enough
My parents are heartbroken
The son's parents do not bother
They enjoy visiting
Many houses
This is entertainment to them
They take pride in the number of
Girls they see to choose a bride
I wonder why the educated men
Who are going to marry
Do not protest such activities of
Insulting girls of their country
Why don’t they think that once
Their mothers got married
Someone came to choose them and
The same sad story was repeated
The story doesn’t end here
They demand dowry as
Cash money, car, fridge
Television and many others
They are shameless to demand
I am waiting for the day
When the story will end
